Baxter (NYSE:BAX) this week completed the $270 million expansion of its Opelika, Ala.-based facilities, according to an AL.com report.

With the expansion, Baxter reportedly doubled its plant’s square footage and will look to double its workforce to keep up with the growth.

The plant now covers 400,000 square feet, growing from an initial 230,000 square feet when it opened in 2014. The workforce is expected to grow from 170 to 350, according to the report.

“I don’t want businesses in Alabama just to survive, but to thrive. I’m thankful Baxter continues to invest in our great state, and I’m proud that their products made right here in Opelika help to save and sustain lives around the world,” Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey said, according to AL.com.

“We are excited to continue our relationship with an organization that is leading the way in life-saving technologies for kidney patients,” Opelika Mayor Gary Fuller said, according to the report.

Yesterday, Baxter said it is collaborating with Chicago-based healthcare incubator Matter to advance new, innovative products and technologies focused on patient-driven innovation.
